nullConsidering that Jewel was released 6 months after Lovebox, 11 months for Fortune could potentially mean that it’s nearly two times as good as Jewel. We’ll have to find out though, haven’t listened to it all thoroughly (college drains so much time).

So Beni released 3 singles prior to the album, all within a 5 month span. The first was Suki Dakara., a light R&B ballad, which also included the more synth driven, purer R&B ballad One In A Million. Both were quite enjoyable, the best songs from the singles. Next was Koe wo Kikasete and crazy girl. The first was mediocre ballad IMO, the latter was definitely more of a party song and a lot catchier. And finally there was Darlin’. It’s a pop song that borders on catchy/annoying, best way to describe it.

And depending on how you wanna classify ONLY ONE, it’s either new or old. It was released on her Lovebox Live Tour CD+DVD as the final track on the CD. As it turns out, it was supposed to be released as a single, but wasn’t for some reason. I honestly love this song, it’s fantastic. It’s an edgy, urban flavored track. Filled with tons of beats, crisp vocals, and an infectious chorus, this is one of the album’s hottest tracks. Easily one of the stronger tracks.

nullFrom there we get entirely new tracks. Let’s face it, Beni’s intros are always amazing, the same goes with Fortune Intro. It’s a synth driven, almost magical-like, euphoric intro. Nice vocals, and I really wish this was a full song, as is the case with all of her intros.

Now for the ballads! First up is the mid-tempo ballad entitled LAST SONG. It has some nice acoustics, some synth, and some other pop elements. It’s definitely better than average, but not much better. Luckily MEMORY is more epic, can I even use that word still, it’s 2012? It’s a bit more oriental, and better overall. Beni’s vocals are spectacular, especially with the classical and synth infused arrangement. Far more catchy, yet I’d still say it’s missing that certain “wow factor.” I’m not quite sure how you’d like to classify secret, but we’ll say it’s a ballad. This song really reminds me of a lazy days song, the arrangement is very laid-back and calm. The chorus is a bit better, a bit more exciting, but it sorta reminds me of a jazz song, not the sound, but the overall feel. Not her best work really. And then there’s Unmei no Hito. It’s kinda a ballad. Slow enough, and it does feature a laid-back, almost a blend of classical and rock (is there a better way to describe it?). It’s honestly a big blur to me, really boring a waste of time, skip to the next song.

nullMy World is definitely one of the more up-beat tracks on the album. Think of it like Darlin’, but a bit more peppy. I’m normally all for pop songs, but this one is a bit too dull for me, and a bit too childish. The last two tracks are truly the best new songs. YES or NO? is your typical synth driven, infectious pop song. This song is just incredible, one of the few standouts on the album. The beats together with the smooth, dance flavored music really make the song stick out. A feel good track that’s sure to get you moving! And the final new track is Oh Yeah! This was the first song on the album that really stood out to me, and I still believe it’s the best new song. Again, it features a typical synth/pop arrangement, yet remains as infectious as any good dance song. I really love her vocals in this song, they just make the song seem so fun and effortless. By far the most infectious track on the album, and one of my new favorites from Beni, not to mention the fact that it’s probably one of the hottest songs to dance to on the entire album.

That concludes the review, so any last thoughts (I answer, not you, if anyone is still reading) ? Yeah. I have to be honest when I say that I wasn’t blown away by this album, come to think of it, I haven’t been blown away since Jewel.  This album really only featured two great songs, granted I loved the intro, but does that count as a fulls song? And as for the singles, it was split 50/50 as far as like/dislike. I’d say this is a step up from Jewel, but not by a substantial amount. I’m beginning to wonder if anything will ever be as good as her first album, guess we’ll have to wait another 11 months to find out. I will say that she looks a lot better though, although I would love to see her in long hair again, just sayin’.
