Eien Yori Nagaku / Drive me crazy

Eien Yori Nagaku / Drive me crazy was Mai Kuraki’s 33rd single. It was released on March 3, 2010 and reached no. 4 on the Oricon Daily Charts with 23,240 copies sold.

Eien Yori Nagaku / Drive me crazy - Mai Kuraki

1. Eien Yori Nagaku
2. Drive me crazy
3. Eien Yori Nagaku -Instrumental-
4. Drive me crazy -Instrumental-

The only thing I really liked about this single was the cover….. yup yup, that was about it.

I’m not sure what Mai was trying to do with Eien Yori Nagaku but it failed. It’s an attempt at an up-beat song, but it just sounds childish and falls flat. The melody was meh and honestly the music wasn’t all that enjoyable. During the chorus is was building up but just stayed annoying and pointless. Like I said, it’s a horrible song. Not nearly as aggressive as I would have liked.

At least Drive me crazy was more of an R&B song. Japan R&B is usually synth driven, but this song is more American R&B. This song is by far the superior of the two, that doesn’t necessarily mean better though. It was a tad too slow for anything to become really catchy. I honestly couldn’t get into this song. Too slow and the English could use some work.

In conclusion, you take one step forward and two steps back. I was looking for something along the lines of PUZZLE, aggressive American catchy R&B. The closest thing to that was a slow R&B song, that could have used some toning up. And the first A-Side was just crap. I really hope she releases something better next time, cause at this rate she’ll be falling quicker than BoA and that thing she called an album xD

Ha, got that right. I barely even liked the cover at that!

Totally agree with your great review. Actually, the first song should be called Drive Me Crazy because it is for kindergarten kids only. I hope she will not put these two songs in her new album. I want some more PUZZLE too.
The two songs on this album are completely different. She sings two type of songs in her BEST albums too. The first group for Children, while the second group for adult. I prefer her adult group of R&B type of songs. After 10 years in the business, I hope she can abandon the first group of songs and become an grown-up Mai-K.

I don’t think it’s just that bad,I liked “eien yori nagaku” It follows the same line of “key to my heart” isn’t it?It is a little bit childish, but I like of her cute childish side,And about drive me crazy,I also liked it,but that PV I did not, because I don not know what they tried to do,They made her dance, what was that? She is not Koda,She is Mai,I like Koda but one is enough,I don not think It suits her,I must to agree that Puzzle is better than drive me crazy, and that I got disapointed too,But I think that her next single will be better,I love her songs,I’ll be waiting for her next one!
