Best Friend was Kana Nishino’s 9th single. It was released on February 24, 2010 and reach at no. 3 on the Oricon Weekly Charts with 23,506 copies sold. The title track was used as the theme song for DOCOMO’s Ganbare Jukensei ’09-’10 CM. To date this is her highest charting release.
1. Best Friend
2. ONE WAY LOVE
3. Kon’ya wa PARTY UP
At this point it’s safe to assume that Kana can do no wrong. Single after single she’s proved that she can deliver great songs that are fierce and a hell of a lot better than some veterans.
It’s been out for almost a month but I’m still not tired of Best Friend. It sounds extremely similar to BRAVE HEART, then again the keyboards are performed by Yamada Yuchi (NERDHEAD), and it is very R&B sounding, well Japan’s standard of R&B. The mid-tempo music and the vocals sound superb. The guitar riffs along with all the synth make for a harmonious and outstanding combination. Her vocals sound very relaxed, while still showing some power. It’s just an extremely catchy song that’s relaxing as well. Easily one of her greatest A-Sides since…well all of them have been good, so it’s just great!
When I saw the title ONE WAY LOVE I immediately thought it’d be Kimi ni Koe wo without Verbal. I was wrong to say the least. This song is more of an urban R&B song, rather than light and fluffy. The beats are more serious and the vocals are again more serious, it’s more of a cool R&B song, not one that’s all happy. But it was pretty catchy, despite the music being a little slower than I’d like.
My favorite track on this single is Kon’ya wa PARTY UP. And like the title suggests, or suggested to me, this song is another infectious pop song! It’s extremely up-beat, the music is very pop sounding, and all the programming sounds are amazing. It’s just a great party song. And the majority of this song is in English, almost like Yuna Ito’s Brand New World. I’d have to say that this is one of her most infectious tracks to date.
Sou asa made
Yeah uchira dake de
Yeah Let’s get together
All Day All Night
In conclusion: Kana has yet again rocked it. She’s easily one of the few artists who disappoints fails to me, and that’s why she’s amazing, and because she can sing pretty damn well. This single is probably her most cohesive single to date, having a central theme of R&B, which is characterized with excessive synth, which I don’t mind at all. Yeah so this is the greatest single at the moment, unless Hikki or Namie can release something.
