Needless to say I’m a big fan of CK. I loved her last two singles and her album Color Change! And now after that she’s released another impressive single, that’s her 2nd double A-Side. I’m just gonna come out and say it: THIS SINGLE RULZ!!!! Now that I have that out of my system, here’s why =)

Besides the abnormally long title After Love -First Boyfriend- is one of CK’s hottest tracks in years. It’s got to be her best mid-tempo R&B infused pop songs in ages. The simple claps, chimes, piano chords all create a peaceful atmosphere. My favorite part were the synth riffs, lots to go around that’s for sure. Now initially it was a bit slower for an R&B song but it does pick up the pace with the chorus, which is to die for. So as for the chorus, it’s just incredible. The synth picks up, the piano more prominent, the strings stronger and even the background vocals sound great.  Well the chorus is without a doubt the most infectious part of the song, Crystal’s vocals are pretty powerful (especially towards the end) and although Kaname just sings background and some English he sounds great. This song is by far one of her greatest works, in terms of arrangement and production.

And now we get to Girlfriend, which features none other than BoA. This song seems to contrast the previous song in so many ways. For one, it’s more up-beat, and not so serious. It’s a lot faster, not so mid-tempo. And BoA actually does something in this song. But both are still primarily R&B/pop and utilize synth elements. But onto the song and why it’s good. So this is actually a collaboration since both are constantly singing. Their vocals are in harmony and they just sound like they’re having a fun time. Again there are some great synth elements and some percussion. The song overall is quite catchy and rather enjoyable.

Deaeta Kiseki was released back in 08 as a digital single, and frankly it could have stayed that way. It’s still nice, but when you compare it to the others it sucks. It’s more ballad driven, as evident by the piano, strings, and mid-tempo music. Her vocals are nice though, that’s one good thing. The beats weren’t all that bad either, but I don’t think I’m going to remember this.

Final Thoughts: SUPERB JOB! CK never fails to impress and she hasn’t at all with this hot summer single. I loved both title tracks, and the Boyfriend/Girlfriend thing is pretty great, not the most creative, but still pretty great overall. I only wish that After Love -First Boyfriend- was a tad bit longer, it seemed that once it was over I was asking myself “Is that it?” Basically I just wanted more since the music was just that amazing. Girlfriend was just a fun, advantageous track, perfect for just partying. Overall it’s magical, especially with all the synth, made me feel like I was in a different world.
