After reading some positive reviews about Yumeji lit. Dream Road, I had to review it. This song is very different from Van’s past works being a ballad rather than a rock song. The piano chords are so majestic and so harmonic. And the strings were just outstanding, the arrangement was just phenomenal. But what I loved most were Van’s vocals. I knew she was talented but this song really shows just how incredible she really is. It’s a nice change of pace from her past works.
Getting back a little to her roots is labyrinth. The electric guitar opens this song and continues to play throughout the song, getting progressively better. But with the brass the song sounds so jazz oriented, pretty sweet. And although the melody is a little odd, I have to admit that I love Van’s vocals. They’re aggressive and just right for this type of music.
Overall Review: Yumeji was a surreal dream! I’m still debating whether or not this is my favorite song, but it’s certainly incredible. The vocals of both songs were just off the charts, one was so beautiful and calming, the other so powerful and sultry. When it came to the music though, everything was perfect, a little odd, yet perfect nonetheless. Perhaps in the future she’ll be able to display some more of her vocal talents. Another magnificent single for the Van. Era.
