SOME BOYS! TOUCH

SOME BOYS! TOUCH was Maki Goto’s 16th single. It was released on October 16, 2006 and reached number 5 on the charts and has sold over 29,459+ copies. Oddly enough, the B-Side was used as the first ending theme song for the anime Ginga Tetsudou Monogatari ~Eien e no Bunkiten~, rather than the title track. This was the second single in the How to use SEXY Era. EDIT: Now featuring some scans!

Review:
With a name like SOME BOYS! TOUCH, it’s safe to assume that this song is a little on the naughty side. That being said, to date, it’s her most mature song to date, and by mature I mean NC17, or R; well that in the sound department. It’s not really as dirty as it sounds. Anyway I loved the opening of the song, heavy synth beats almost like sounding an alarm. Followed by those sexy vocals that seem to lure in people. It was the first time I enjoyed the verses so much, with the distorted vocals whispered occasionally. However once it got to the chorus, it dropped that naughty act and got more pop and lighter. Still that wasn’t a bad thing, and I must admit that I loved the strings at the end. This song has got to be one of her best songs to date, well under this label anyway.

It was such a complete surprise to hear ALL OF US after the previous track. Both are complete opposites, one is heavy synth and the other is lighthearted pop. Yet this song isn’t all that bad, that being said it’s not all pop either. It’s still a pop song, that features the violins and that sounds a little like a ballad, but that’s not a bad thing. The song did move in somewhat of a mid-tempo fashion though, and that got a little annoying. Another thing I didn’t like all that much were the vocals. They were so monotone for the most part, and that’s the worse part. But I must admit that the song wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

Overall Review: SOME BOYS! TOUCH was a little guilty treat. I must admit that Maki’s vocals were excellent and a little of a turn on. Anyway, moving on…. I really liked the song overall. Her vocals were great and I loved the arrangement; I mean synth verses and pop chorus, one hell of a combination. As for the B-Side, well it wasn’t as bad as I thought, but it still needs some work. But this single overall is another great one for Maki!

    This is actually the song that got me into Maki.
    It’s the biggest guilty pleasure of mines.
    @_@
    And those live performances.
    I’m confused.
    Was I supposed to be turned on or laughing my ass off?

    This song made me a fan of Maki too. It’s really addicting. Hopefully her new avex songs will sound like it because that would be awesome.

  1. […] just when things can’t get any better, or naughtier in this case, SOME BOYS! TOUCH appears. It was by far the naughtiest sounding song from any of her singles, and trickiest too. […]
