Review:
At this point I’ve decided to back track a bit. I don’t feel like reviewing another album, and it seems like this year’s winter singles are done, except for one really major one, but that’s not till later next week. And since I love the title track so much and since I’ve already done the last single why not review the first and second from the album?

Besides being lazy I COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY ADORE SAYONARA Baby. That’s probably the main reason for my reviewing this song. And since I love it so much it’ll be rather detailed. So this song is pretty much the most infectious song I’ve ever heard. It’s Miliyah so it’s R&B that does involve a tone of synth, but to some degree it sounds almost like a dance song with all the beats, claps, and again the synth. Her vocals sound incredible with the semi-fast music, and there’s even some power. Yeah but it’s pretty sweet, just all the beats and underlying synth, it’s a mind-blowing combination.

As for Koishiteru, I’m honestly not too sure about this song. This song is more of an up-beat R&B song, that sounds a bit too cheery. It also samples the song I Love Your Smile by Shanice. I just couldn’t get over the woodwind section, it was obnoxious.

PERFECT PITCH is a bit more tolerable, especially with all the strings. It’s a decent R&B song, it doesn’t go too fast, it keeps at a nice pace. But after a while it does sound rather bland. But the beats are nice, and her vocals were pretty good.

Final Thoughts: Greatest song ever! If you listen to one song this year, particularly one that’s R&B and synth oriented, then listen to this song, and by this I mean SAYONARA Baby. The beats are crazy and the sound is phenomenal, it’s almost a dance song, that’s how infectious it is. That being said, it’s safe to say that you can skip the other tracks since this outshines them both. Yeah the single could have been better, but in this case the one track makes up for the others, it’s just that damn good. An infectious and memorable way to kick off the Ring Era.

WHY was Miliyah Kato’s 16th single. It was released on November 11, 2009 and reached no. 10 on the Oricon Weekly Charts with 15,189 copies sold. Destiny was used as the theme song for the Japanese release of the movie New Moon.

WHY - Miliyah Kato

Tracks:
1. WHY
2. Destiny
3. You don’t know me
4. WHY (Instrumental)

Review:
nullAgain for some reason I just LOVE Miliyah. She’s yet again released another strong single. The title track WHY is just beyond words, but I’ll describe them to you in words anyway. Initially the music sounds very sad and dreary, in part because of the guitar riffs, but then it picks up a bit. Finally at the chorus there’s an explosion of power and music. At that point it’s and epic rock ballad, lots of emotion and vocal power, and I love how it’s just really catchy. Destiny on the other hand is an R&B ballad. I’m not too sure whether or not it’ll fit in with New Moon, but it does sound amazing. Like most ballads it does feature the piano as the signature instrument, but it also features some R&B beats, and some underlying synth beats. Again the chorus is the best part of the song, namely due to the beats, the synth, and the music. Her vocals sound a lot stronger as a whole, and there’s a lot more emotion. Oh and one of the most important things is that the melody is incredible. It’s a win-win situation. And the B-Side You don’t know me is just….bleh. It’s a mid-tempo ballad with some minor beats, it’s a lot slower, and not nearly as epic as Destiny, which is the main reason why I don’t like it all that much. And she overuses English, it makes it boring and repetitive.

Final Thoughts: ZOMG MILIYAH, where have you been hiding???? This single is pretty much straight genius if you ask me. It’s got some great ballads, both Rock and R&B which utilize both classical and modern elements. The songs as a whole are amazing, the B-Side could have been better but all and all it’s fantastic. The thing that I’d have to say that I love the most were the synth beats, and naturally the melodies. The arrangement was great and the producers are geniuses. It’s just as good, if not better than, Love Forever. She’ll be set if she can release more songs like these.

Love Forever was Miliyah Kato × Shota’s 1st collaboration single together. It was released on May 13, 2009.

Love Forever - M

Tracks:
1. Love Forever
2. Looking your eyes
3. I’M YOUR ANGEL
4. Love Forever INSTRUMENTAL

Review:
Why I decided to give Love Forever a shot is beyond me but I have to say that I’m so glad I did. I’ve never really heard Miliyah before but after hearing this she might be worth looking into. Her vocals were just stunning and sounded so refreshing, and surprisingly they went well with Shota’s vocals, the two were in perfect harmony; they could teach Kuu and misono a thing or two. As for the music well it’s what you’d expect from an R&B ballad. The piano naturally and of course some infectious percussion and the most important part, the synth. Everything just ran very smoothly, soft music that’s pleasing to the ears. The mid-tempo atmosphere was just perfect for the infectious chorus. It was genuinely infectious, especially the final chorus, with all that great vocals.

Well after an R&B ballad you sort of come to expect another R&B song, and that’s what Looking your eyes is. It’s a lot slower than the previous track but it’s just as enjoyable, perhaps not memorable but it sounds nice. There’s a great emphasis on the percussion than anything else. Shota’s vocals sounded ok, but I like them when there were some distortions. Miliyah’s weren’t all that impressive this time but again they sounded nice. One of the oddest things by far was the “stop” part, where things stopped for a second.

The final track is entitled I’M YOUR ANGEL. And what I love most about this track is the fact that it’s an R&B ballad with more of an emphasis on the ballad aspects. It doesn’t hurt that this is in English and oddly enough both artists display their talent for speaking English with a L. As far as lyrics they’re very romantic and lovey dovey, very sweet though. It sounds more American than the title track oddly enough, reminds me of stuff you might hear on your local radio station, well as far as R&B ballads go.

Overall Review: Love Forever was sweet R&B ballad benevolence! This is one of the GREATEST R&B songs I’ve heard. It beats BoA’s Eien and easily tops BENI’s Kiss Kiss Kiss. It sounds so simple and it’s filled with synth, which never hurts. But what I love about it is the fact that it sounds so American, then again that is there R&B got its start. As for the B-Sides, well they were interesting. The first wasn’t all that exciting, R&B nonetheless though, just a lot slower and more R&B centered. However the final track was pleasant and intoxicating. It’s far more mainstream and easier on the ears. Overall though I’m extremely pleased with this spectacular single.
